What do I need to bring with me to class?
You will need to bring the following with you on the day of class:
The handgun that you intend to train with. If you do not yet own a handgun, then you can either rent one from the shooting range, or you can talk to the instructor to see what they have available to borrow.
A minimum of 50 rounds of ammunition. Ammunition in many different calibers is usually availble for sale at the shooting range if you don't have any with you. The cost is typically $15 to $25 depending on the caliber of your handgun.

Payment in cash for any remaining balance you owe for the course. (Cash Only, No Checks)

What is the process to apply for my CPL after I have completed my traning course?
You must be patient! Although it is hard to say with certainty, the current processing time in most counties is approximately 4 to 6 months from the time the application is submitted until it is approved and issued. This is due to the extreme backlog that has been caused by the record number of people applying for their CPL/CCW. The process is as follows:
Applicant files their application with the county clerk in the county in which the individual resides. This must include: (1) a certificate of completion of the pistol safety training course, and (2) a passport quality photograph.
Applicant pays a fee of $105 to the county clerk at time of filing.
Applicant receives a receipt for payment.
Applicant provides receipt and has fingerprints taken by sheriff department or a local law enforcement agency. However, the local agency may charge an additional $15 for the taking of the fingerprints. Some sheriff departments participate with a vendor to provide applicant finger printing. There is no additional charge for this service.
Sheriff department or local police agency forwards fingerprints to the Michigan State Police.
Comprehensive background checks are performed by the Michigan State Police and the FBI. Once the background checks have been completed, the results are sent back to the Sheriff department.
Once the Sheriff's department and county gun board receives the background reports, they will issue or deny the license within 45 days.
In some Michigan counties, the applicant will have to appear in front of the County Gun Board for final approval. (This is usually a formality. In our experience, only people who have been approved get invited to appear at the Gun Board)

07
Do I have to apply for the CPL/CCW in the MICHIGAN county I reside in?
Yes, you must apply in the county you reside in.
08
Do I need to provide a reason why I want a Concealed Pistol License?
NO. You do not need to have a reason why you want a CPL. If you are asked why you want a CPL, "Personal Defense" is a good enough answer. Some other more restrictive states will make their citizens provide a reason or proof of need. Michigan is very supportive of concealed carry and does not require a reason.
09
What is a CCW? Is there a difference between a CCW and a CPL?

In Michigan, a CCW (Carry a Concealed Weapon) is simply a "slang" term for a CPL (Concealed Pistol License). There are not two separate permits. A CPL will allow you to carry a concealed "loaded" pistol on your body for protection, or in a motor vehicle loaded. In short, they are one in the same.
11
Do I have to own a gun before I take your CCW/CPL class?
No. If you don’t have your own firearm, we can make one available for you for free. If you don’t have a pressing need to buy a gun before the class, wait until after you complete class before you make a gun purchase. We extensively cover the things that you need to be aware of to ensure that you buy the right gun for you and your needs
11
Is there a dress code for your CCW / CPL class?
In general terms, there is no dress code. However, you need to ensure that you are comfortable. If possible, wear jeans or jogging pants a long-sleeved shirt and avoid tops with a low neckline as hot shell casings may cause you some discomfort if they come in contact with your skin. Also, avoid wearing open-toed shoes.

Can I use my MICHIGAN Concealed Handgun Permit in other states when I travel?
Yes, licensed Michigan CPL holders may legally carry their handguns in many other states that recognize reciprocity with the State of Michigan. Although Michigan CPL holders may carry in these other states, they MUST follow that particular state's concealed carry laws while in that state. Make sure you are familiar with the laws of the state you are traveling to before you go there, as they may be quite different or more restrictive than Michigan's laws. Just because it is legal in Michigan, DOES NOT mean it will be legal in a different state.
